The Threemile Lake Trail is an easy-to-moderate, 6.6-mile out-and-back trail that sets out from the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and traverses lush forest of mossy coastal conifer, gigantic ferns, and numerous mushrooms before opening onto dunes and sandy beaches. The moderately-trafficked trail is not very strenuous with an elevation gain of only 997 feet, but a few sections with steep inclines and others with deep sand make the trail a little trickier than beginner level. If you choose to explore further than this out-and-back trail, you can connect a loop back to the trailhead by taking the Tahkenitch Dunes Trail.
The Threemile Lake Trail culminates at an overlook of the azure Threemile Lake, where hikers often choose to picnic or spend the day. There is a sandy, 0.3-mile path that leads to the lakeside beach. Parking at the Tahkenitch Dunes-Threemile Lake North Trailhead requires a $5 day-use-pass or a valid Recreation Pass. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
*Note that the dry sand beach is closed to recreation from March 15 to September 15 to protect the Snowy Plover Nesting Area.
