The Precipice Trail is a well-known, 1.6-mile, lightly trafficked, out-and-back trail located near Bar Harbor, Maine. Being the most challenging hiking trail in Acadia National Park, with an elevation gain of 1060 feet climbing up Champlain Mountain, it is only recommended for physically fit and experienced adventures. Dogs are not allowed on the trail. The Precipice Trail can be closed late spring through mid-August for peregrine falcon nesting. From the summit of Champlain Mountain, enjoy the great views of the ocean to the east and Dorr Mountain to the west. There is parking space at the trailhead, but hikers should bring enough drinking water.
