The Square Ledge Trail runs from Pinkham Notch to the top of Square Ledge. Parking for the Square Ledge Trail is best found at the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, where one can also fill water, purchase food and gear, and use bathrooms. Parking quickly fills on weekends, making the side of Route 16 your next best option.
This beginner-friendly trail rises moderately, and then steeply after hikers cross a boardwalk and beaver dam. Just before the top of Square Ledge, there are several large rock staircases that can become icy in the winter. Square Ledge drops off steeply from the top, and it is not uncommon to see rock climbers on its face in the summer. There are great views of Pinkham Notch and Mt. Washington from one lookout low down on the trail, and from Square Ledge itself. These views make the Square Ledge Trail well worth the 30 minutes it takes to reach its top.
