Located near Renton in Cougar Mountain Regional Wildman Park, the Shy Bear Trail is a 4.8-mile, out-and-back trail. A lightly trafficked trail, the Shy Bear Trail is mostly used for hiking, walking, nature trips and bird watching. Since this is not a seasonal trail, the Shy Bear Trail is accessible throughout the year. Plants in the trail include oaks and walnuts. Bugs are also quite common on this trail; hence hikers should remember to carry bug spray. Hikers pass through a footbridge, marshes, and seasonal falls on their way to the trail. At the highest point of the Shy Bear Trail, hikers get the chance of viewing the Klondike swamp and the Big Tree Ridge. While dogs can access this trail, they should always be on a leash. Hikers are advised to always carry their own water when visiting the trail.
