The Ptarmigan Trail is a heavily trafficked, out-and-back trail used for various activities like snowshoeing, hiking, nature trips, walking, and birding. The 4.6 mile-long trail has an elevation gain of 1,141 feet. The trail is for people with advanced skills making it unfriendly for kids. Dogs can use the Ptarmigan Trail provided they are leashed. There are no drinking water points or restrooms on the trail. Squirrels, marmots, deer, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and grizzly bears make up the megafauna of the Ptarmigan Trail. Beargrass, geraniums and alpine plants are very common in the area. The Ptarmigan Trail is accessible all year but the trail is at its best from May to November.
