The Park Butte Trail is an 7.5-mile, out-and-back trail located within the Mount Baker National Park. A multi-use trail, the Park Butte trail is mostly used for hiking, camping, horseback riding and snowshoeing. Being a seasonal trail, it is best used from July to October. A variety of indigenous wild plants such as blueberries, salmonberries, heather, huckleberries, lupines, pearling everlasting and fireweed can be found along this trail. An old historic fire lookout that offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding including the glaciated Mt. Baker and the iconic Mt. Shuksan is located at the topmost section of the trail. While dogs are allowed on the Park Butte Trail, they should always be on a leash. Hikers should remember to carry plenty of drinking water. To access the trail, hikers should first obtain a Northwest Forest Pass at the trailhead.
