Mount Joy Trail is moderately trafficked and features exotic wildflowers, rhododendron, fox, and deer. It is used mainly for nature trips, running, walking, and hiking. Dogs are allowed to access this trail but must be carefully guarded. It has an alternate starting point on the Joseph Plumb Martin trail, and its parking lot and restrooms are near the cannons. The path is well shaded and rocky in some places, but it is a reasonably easy trail even for children. Most people complete the 3.75 miles under two hours, which is impressive. There is no chance of you getting lost as the trail is well-groomed and straightforward.
