The Iris Trail is an intermediate 4.5-mile natural forest trail that provides access to Appalachian Trail and Rutherford Trail. The Iris Trail crosses the Appalachian Trail twice, making shorter and longer loop hikes possible. The moderately trafficked trail provides many opportunities to observe wildlife, birds, and beautiful scenic view of the Rutherford lake. The Iris Trail is seasonal, with the ideal time to visit being from April until October. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail. Hikers are expected to supply their own water and nutrition.
