Great Notch trail, located near Southwest Harbor, Maine, is a 5-mile, moderately trafficked, out-and-back trail. This moderate rated trail has an elevation gain of 1,187 feet and is kid friendly. Dogs are also allowed on the trail, but they must be kept on leash. The Great Notch Trail is accessible for use any time of the day, and best used from April until October for hiking, walking, bird watching, running, and nature trips. Hiking along the trail takes approximately 3 hours, for an average hiker. The trail features views of beautiful wildflowers, forest, and wildlife. With no provision of drinking water on the trail, hikers should bring their own.
