The 17.2-mile trail includes a mixed surface and an elevation gain of 3641 feet. The Dawson Cutoff Trail is rated moderate in terms of difficulty. Dogs are not permitted. The trail is endowed with a river, a lake, and a forest that provides a serene and cool atmosphere. Valley bottoms and dry alpines are scattered along the trail and animals like chipmunks, mountain goats, deer, and bears are common in the area. All hikers are advised to carry a bear spray. There are no restrooms on the Dawson Cutoff Trail and trail users ought to carry their own drinking water. The Dawson Cutoff Trail is accessible all year round.
