The Everglades National Park is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Florida, and the only way to get to the national park is through the Crocodile Trail. The Crocodile Trail or Anhinga Trail is a 0.8-mile hiking route that leads you directly to the national park and to the sight of the stunning wildlife, which includes various types of wading birds and alligators. At the end of the hiking route is a boardwalk that comes with several observation platforms where you can view the birds and amazing sunning alligators uninterrupted.
The Crocodile Trail starts from the Visitor Centre at the National Park. The trail is a paved path that passes through Taylor Slough, which is a waterway in the park. The waterway is an attraction in itself as it retains water all year round irrespective of weather changes. It is also a popular spot for wildlife and as you walk along, you can catch a glimpse of Cormorants and alligators sunning peacefully on the grass.
The trail takes you further to a boardwalk. 0.2 miles beyond the boardwalk, you will find an observation deck that gives you a clear view of the surrounding marsh. If you visit the park during the spring, you will see more types of birds than you would during other seasons. Some of the most common birds that you can view from the observation room include herons, egrets, and spoonbills among many others.
To get a clearer view of the alligators, go back to the boardwalk and follow the slough. Here you will find clusters of trees such as pond apples, which are a favorite with raccoons and other animals. You will also see Hammocky Islands where majority of the alligators hang out. Further up the trail on your right is another observation platform that provides you with a broader view of the slough. Here you will watch the alligators as they wade through the water. Besides the alligators, an expansive beautiful view of saw grass prairies will make you click your camera away for keepsakes.
