The Coal Creek Trail is a moderately trafficked, loop trail used for camping, nature trips, and hiking. The 4.7-mile trail has a mixed surface and an elevation gain of 3,927.2 feet making it not recommended for children. Dogs are not permitted on the trail. There are no restrooms or drinking water points on the Coal Creek Trail but the two facilities can be found on the nearby campgrounds. Bears, elk and moose are common in this area and hikers are advised to carry a bear spray. Flowers such as Indian paintbrush and arnica are scattered along the trail. The Coal Creek Trail is open throughout the year.
