Beaver Pond Trail is an easy out-and-back hike that climbs gently through magnificent aspen trees and ferns and culminates at the reflective Beaver Ponds. At the ponds, fishing and camping are options, optimally between June and October. Many also make the quick, 1.1-mile hike an opportunity for picnics. The trail is both kid-friendly and dog-friendly and is open to both hikers and horseback riders. Features of the Beaver Pond Trail include views of the Anthracite Mountain Range as well as further trails around the ponds and - you guessed it - beavers! You'll notice several beaver lodges dispersed in the water and may glimpse some furry families as they come and go from the underwater entrances to their dome homes.
Note that once on the trail, you enter the West Elk Wilderness Area and Wilderness Regulations apply. These can be viewed here: West Elk Wilderness Regulations.
