The Bear Mountain Lookout Trail is a moderately trafficked point-to-point trail with an elevation gain of 1,358 feet. Bear Mountain Lookout Trail, which is open year round, is primarily used for hiking but it is also used for bird watching and nature trips. It takes about 1 hour to hike the 1.7-mile-long trail which is rated difficult in terms of difficulty. Raptors, chickadees and white-crowned sparrows are the most common birds on this trail. The Bear Mountain Lookout Trail is known for its beautiful flowers like whitebark pines, buckwheat, arnica, and shrubby penstemon which are scattered on the trail. The most notable aspects of this trail are Mount Merritt, Mokowanis River Valley, and Cosley Glennis Lake. Hikers using the Bear Mountain Lookout Trail ought to carry drinking and bear spray since the trail is located in bear territory. Mountain goats are common on this path.
