The Thornton Lake Trail is an 8.3-mile, out-and-back trail located within the North Cascades National Park. Because of its strenuous terrain, the Thornton Lake Trail is suitable for hikers with advanced skills. Hiking on the Thornton Lake Trail presents hikers with the opportunity of enjoying breathtaking vistas including the magnificent Thornton Lakes, Picket Range, Mount Triumph, and several other Northern Cascades peaks. A variety of wild animals such as eagles, black bears, hawks, and marmots can be found on this trail. On top of that, several indigenous plants such as Hemlock, Cedar and Douglas fir dominate a bigger section of this trail. While drinking water may be obtained from the rivers and streams, it is important to treat the water first before consumption. To camp on the Thornton’s Lake trail, hikers should obtain a backcountry permit at the ranger’s office.
