The Mt. Shuksan trail is a 15.2-mile, out-and-back trail located within the North Cascades National Park. A seasonal trail, it is best used from June to August. Because of its strenuous terrain, the Mt. Shuksan Trail is suitable for the most experienced hikers. Mountaineering boots, rain jackets and gaiters will always come in handy when hiking the Mount Shuksan Trail. At the highest sections of the trail, hikers will get to enjoy various breathtaking vistas including Shannon ridge, Mount Baker, and the pristine Baker lake. A variety of indigenous plants including salmonberries are quite common on the Mt. Shuksan Trail. To access the trail, hikers should first obtain a Northwest Forest Pass. While hikers may obtain drinking water from rivers and streams, it’s important to treat the water first before consumption.
