Mescal Trail is a lightly trafficked, 6-mile trail near Sedona, Arizona that is accessible throughout the year. This family and kid-friendly trail is rated moderate in terms of difficulty due to its elevation gain of 502 feet. Hikers on Mescal Trail get to enjoy the fantastic views of wildlife, charming wildflowers and enjoy the coolness of the forest. It takes about six hours on average to finish this trail. Besides hiking, other activities permitted on this trail include; nature walks, mountain biking, running and climbing massive red rocks on the trail. Dogs on leash are allowed on the Mescal Trail. Hikers ought to carry their drinking water while hiking at the out and back Mescal Trail.

Located in Arizona, the Coconino National Forest stands at 1.856 million acres of land. The forest was initially founded in 1898 by President William McKinley and was known as San Francisco Mountains National Forest Reserve. The change was due to the request from the head of U.S Division of Forestry, Gifford Pinchot. In 1905, the forest Reserves were handed over to the Department of Agriculture and managed by the new formed Forest Service. Later on, in 1908, the forest was merged with lands from the surrounding woods and became the Coconino National Forest. The ecology of the area comprises of landscapes, flatlands, alpine tundra, desserts and ancient volcanic peaks. Various trails including the Mescal Trail were developed to help people navigate through these amazing features.
