Located within Glacier National Park, the Elk Mountain Trail is heavily trafficked, out-and-back trail used primarily for hiking and nature walks. The 5.9-mile trail has an elevation gain of 3,001 feet. The Elk Mountain Trail is rated strenuous in terms of difficulty. The trail is not kid-friendly and dogs are not permitted on this path. Alpine flowers like bear grass and sky pilot are very common on the Elk Mountain Trail. Wild animals like elks, moose, deer, and bears can be spotted by hikers on this trail. Users of Elk Mountain are advised to carry a bear spray. There are no restrooms or drinking water spots on the trail. The Elk Mountain Trail has lovely views of fall colors, a river, and a lake.
