Dam Mountain Trail, a Lake Catherine State Park National Recreation Trail, is a 4.5-mile loop trail that offers several astonishing views of the Ouachita River.
After passing through forests of pines and hardwoods, the trail culminates on top of Dam Mountain. Enter the trail near the campsites. A nearby public restroom offers facilities, drinking fountains, and parking.
The Dam Mountain Trail crosses several other Lake Catherine State Park Trails, including Falls Branch and Horseshoe Mountain trails. Follow the white trail blazes to stay on Dam Mountain Trail. Other than the river view and regional fauna, look for a suspended bridge to help you cross over a small section of the river.
The trail is at the moderate skill level because of its length and a hill near the beginning of the trail. Hike clockwise to start with the hill and end on a slight downgrade. Starting counterclockwise means you'll have to tackle that hill at the end. Dogs are allowed on leash.
