Buckhorn Trail is a 12.2-mile, lightly trafficked, loop trail. With 1066 feet of elevation gain, it is rated difficult. This loop path near Watford City in North Dakota has diversity including prairie dog towns, steep plateau plains, rivers and coulees. Visit the trail between March and October and go near the Little Missouri River. The course stretches by water treatment pools for campgrounds. The track is near the road on multiple occasions rendering it easy to avoid wildlife when you find them on the way. Dogs are not allowed, but you get free permits upon arrival for backcountry camping. The path has proper marking for mossy places and sports difficult to follow sections, especially during spring or after a downpour.
